New Paltz American Marketing Association Celebrates Sweet Success
10/24/2011
On Wednesday, October 12, 2011 the State University of New York at New Paltz student chapter of the American Marketing Association held a Hurricane Irene relief fundraiser for the local chapter of the Red Cross.
The fundraiser was hosted at Moxie Cupcake in New Paltz and raised over $530 for local victims a goal that VP of Community Service, Mike Smith is very proud of.
“It was a great turnout! A lot of students and faculty came out to show support, and a lot of people found out about the fundraiser from the signs outside the store held up by students in costume and without hesitation went in and bought some cupcakes,” said Smith.
The event was a great success for a cause that benefits the local victims and in bringing attention to a new, growing local business as well.
“It is a perfect way to use our marketing skills to help the community, due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Irene, and promote a new business in New Paltz ” said President, Fiona Lee.
“It was a great way to get students off campus and into the community,” said Events Committee Chair, Krystal Lokys. Half of all the sales of the $3 cupcakes went to the Hurricanes 2011 and Related Storm Fund of local chapter of the American Red Cross.
